Marco Borriello - RomaCarpi’s new signing striker Marco Borriello revealed that he joined the Biancorossi out of a love for the game and a desire to play it more frequently.

The 33-year-old also promises to fight hard to keep his new side in Serie A and reinvigorate himself.

“The decision to join Carpi was one that I made easily,” said Borriello to Sky Sport Italia.

“I have already played in a team that’s fighting for survival.

“I know what it means to fight and make sacrifices.

“In the end, my personal motivations and love of football persuaded me to join Carpi, I want to continue fighting.

“In the past few season I haven’t played with any sort of continuity, I never got back into Roma’s plans when they held my registration and I always had to go out on loan in January.

“Now, I want to say that this is a new adventure for me and not the end because I do not feel old.”

The former Genoa striker also identified Carpi’s objectives.

“We want to stay up, it will be a challenging year and we should not get too down if we lose a few games and we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves if we start winning.

“I hope to score at least 12 goals to help the team reach its objectives.”

The striker with seven Italy caps also spoke about the possibility of a return to the Azzurri setup.

“I know [Italy coach Antonio] Conte and I have an excellent relationship with him from when we were together at Juventus,” Borriello added.

“I’ll think about it, it’s a dream but everything will depend on performances, for me and for all the others.

“I’ll think about the present, I want to get back on the pitch and experience the joys of an attacker again.”
