Chievo have been given approval to redesignate the top tier of their South Stand for away supporters, but must carry out some safety work before the change can take place.

The club had hoped to move visiting fans to the stand that backs onto the Via Fra Giacondo for some time, and Verona city council have finally given the go ahead.

“The club told us months ago,” stated legal assessor Alberto Bozza, “that it wanted to reserve the upper section of the south stand when Chievo are at home for visiting supporters.

“As was requested by the Security Committee of the prefecture’s police department, there will also be an upgrade to the outside of the stadium. This will create a holding area outside the visitor’s entrance, but also a connecting path will be needed leading from the parking at the PalaMasprone, with access to the south of the [Stadio Marc’Antonio] Bentegodi.

“The adjustments will be carried out by the club, Chievo Verona, and not the city.”

The work, which will see a number of fences installed around the stadium, is expected to be completed by the time the Mussi Volante next play a home game, against Inter on 20 September.
