Former Fiorentina forward Christian Rigano told media on Tuesday that it will take some time for the current Viola squad to gel together before it produces its best results.

Despite losing coach Vincenzo Montella and some key figures from last year’s fourth-place finish in the offseason, Fiorentina began the new campaign more than promising – with a 2-0 win against a strengthened AC Milan squad – but then lost 3-1 to Torino last weekend despite taking the lead.

“It’s unfortunate how the team blacked out in the second half against Torino, because just like in the game against Milan, they were playing well,” said Rigano to Tuttomercatoweb.

“The team acquired some strong players but we have to see them at work and wait before giving our opinions.

“In respect to recent years, it looks like there will be more teams fighting for the top, but we will see.”

The former Viola captain said a few words about the team’s high-profile signing this summer, Nikola Kalinic from Dnipro.

“He is an excellent presence in the area, and only a goal was missing from his performance against Torino, but he is a striker that has been missed for a long time,” Rigano said.
