Paul Pogba is not suited to the playmaker role.
The 22-year-old French international has been given the number 10 shirt by the Bianconeri following the departure of Carlos Tevez, suggesting that he will play a more advanced role this season.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of France’s game against Portugal on Friday, Deschamps laid out his case.
“Pogba behind the strikers?” he began.
“Paul has never been and never will be a playmaker.
“That is not his game.
“With his physical structure he cannot give his best in that role, even if he shoots to kill in the attack.”
Deschamps’ comments come less than a week after Pogba looked frustrated and out of his element during The Old Lady’s 2-1 loss to last season’s Serie A runner-up Roma.
