Frosinone sporting director Marco Giannitti has said the club had an agreement with Roma to sign Victor Ibarbo, but then Watford prised him away.

The Canarini are in Serie A for the first time after a securing a brilliant promotion from Serie B, and as a result were looking to strengthen on deadline day.

“We had an agreement for Ibarbo, and it was not such a far-fetched idea,” Giannitti said to Il Tempo

“But we faced a number of problems related to the ownership of the player and then when when you have teams like Watford come you can not compete.”

Giannitti was still positive that the squad they have now can keep them in Serie A.

“The market is closed now, there were other players that could have done a job for us.

“We are giving continuity to a project was started two years ago and we are right in line.”
