Genoa beat AC Milan 1-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Serie A on Sunday afternoon to pick up their second win of the season.

The only goal of the game was scored in the first half by Genoa’s Blerim Dzemaili via a deflected free-kick, while AC Milan had Alessio Romagnoli sent off.

The hosts started brightly and went close after five minutes when Diego Capel fired a free-kick just wide of Diego Lopez’s goal.

The Grifone made the most of the their early momentum and took the lead after ten minutes when a Dzemaili free-kick took a deflection to deceive Lopez and make it 1-0.

Following the goal, possession was fairly even between the two sides however both teams were struggling to create any clear-cut goalscoring opportunities.

The Rossoneri were further disadvantaged on 42 minutes when Romagnoli was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for a foul on Capel.

This was the last action of note in the first half and the sides went in at half-time with the score remaining 1-0.

The first chance of the second half saw Luiz Adriano force a save from Eugenio Lamanna with a low shot however Milan were unable to profit from the resulting corner.

As the half continued Genoa were making their numerical advantage count and controlling more of the possession however Lopez in the visitors’ goal was having little to do.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men missed a big opportunity to draw level on 87 minutes when substitute Juraj Kucka got a clear sight of goal inside the penalty area but blazed his shot over the bar.

This proved to be the final chance of the game and following six minutes of injury time the match ended with a 1-0 victory for Genoa.

The result gives the Grifone their second win of the season and leaves Milan 10th in the Serie A table.
