Lazio came from behind to earn a 2-1 victory at the Stadio Bentegodi against Hellas Verona on Sunday.

Filip Helander scored his first goal of the season for the Mastini with a header that latched onto a set piece rebound while Lazio answered with a Lucas Biglia penalty kick before Marco Parolo’s strike with less than five minutes remaining.

Lazio earned plenty of chances in a lacklustre first half but were guilty of failing to hit the target before conceding.

The deadlock was broken by the home side following a set piece taken by Federico Viviani at the half hour mark. Juanito Gomez connected his stylish aerial volley on a great cross by the Italian but it firmly struck the crossbar, and Helander pounced on the loose ball with a header straight back into the top corner.

Stefano Pioli kept his lineup unchanged until the 58th minute when Senad Lulic completely cut open the Verona defence with a run to the byline and squared a pass inside the box to Filip Djordjevic, but the Serbian was thwarted by a fantastic block from Vangelis Moras.

Within seconds of his substitution for Djordjevic, Keita Balde won a penalty for Lazio with a rapid run towards the box that drew a late challenge from Jacopo Sala, and Lucas Biglia confidently buried the ensuing penalty kick to level the match.

Despite a much better second half, Lazio were caught on the break by the Gialloblu with just 10 minutes left and Mauricio was sent off for a second bookable offence following a poor challenge.

Unfazed by the setback, Lazio found their crucial game winner from a set piece after Lucas Biglia laid a rolled pass neatly for Marco Parolo and the Italian slammed his shot through a broken Verona wall.

Victory for Lazio sees them enter fifth place level on 12 points with Fiorentina and Sassuolo while Hellas Verona sit in 17th with a measly three points.
