Brazilian midfielder Hernanes admitted that he was surprised when Juventus phoned him to propose a move from Inter.

The 30-year-old moved to Turin on deadline day for a reported fee of €11 million.

“The phone call from the Bianconeri did surprise me but I am happy to be here,” said Hernanes at his official presentation.

“As a club, Juventus have always been winners and I believe that will continue.

“I am here to help the team with this task and I am also here to improve myself.

“Ageing has hurt me but I am wiser and at my peak in terms of maturity.

“This move isn’t a risk but a chance for me to prove myself.

“I have always had lots of responsibility at every club where I have played and I hope to do well here at Juventus.

“Football is a sport with its own dynamics: I was happy at Inter but now I am here for a new experience.”

The former Lazio midfielder also spoke about his excitement at the possibility of making his Champions League debut with the Old Lady.

“I have a lot of desire to play in the Champions League,” added Hernanes.

“I have played in a World Cup but never in the Champions League and now I want to do well and help the team to pick up important results in that competition.”

The Brazilian international also admitted that he is not yet 100 per cent sure of his role as he is yet to speak with coach Massimiliano Allegri.

“We still haven’t spoken in person,” Hernanes explained.

“We’ll see how things go on the pitch, it’s difficult to say what my role will be without having spoken to the coach.

“We’ll see in the next few days.”
