Inter 4-1 at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium on Sunday evening to go top of Serie A and underline their title credentials.

The Viola took the lead after just three minutes when Josip Ilicic converted from the penalty spot before Nikola Kalinic scored a brace to give them a three goal cushion. Inter’s evening got worse after Miranda was sent off after 32 minutes but the hosts did manage to get a consolation goal through Mauro Icardi, yet Kalinic completed his hat-trick to condemn the Nerazzurri to a heavy defeat.

Inter started disastrously after Samir Handanovic fouled Nikola Kalinic in just the third minute to concede a penalty which after a long pause was converted ruthlessly by Ilicic to put the Viola ahead.

The visitors then extended their lead after wonderful play by Ilicic seen him curl a shot to Handanovic’s right-hand corner. The Slovenian goalkeeper got a hand to the effort, but it was a poor save that allowed the ball to progress towards goal and for Kalinic to slide in Fiorentina’s second.

Minutes later Marcos Alonso put a great cross into the Inter box and Kalinic slid in to score his second and Fiorentina’s third.

Things got much worse for the Nerazzurri ten minutes later when Miranda was shown a red card for pulling down Ilicic who was clear through on goal.

After the interval Fiorentina monopolised possession but Inter got a goal back after a free-kick was headered by Mauro Icardi and hit the post only for the Argentine to stab home the rebound.

However, Paulo Sousa’s side restored their three goal advantage when Ilicic delightfully set-up Kalinic for a simple tap-in to condemn Roberto Mancini’s side to their first defeat this season.

As a result of their win Fiorentina go top of Serie A for the first time since February 1999 whilst Inter slip to second.
