Kalidou Koulibaly NapoliNapoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has revealed that his choice to play for the Senegal national team came from his heart despite reports claiming otherwise.

Previous reports in the media have suggested that the Partenopei man had only chosen to represent Senegal due to a lack of attention from France coach Didier Deschamps, but the 24-year-old denies this and insists that his decision was solely based on the love for his family’s heritage.

Koulibaly spoke through his official Twitter profile to clarify his reasoning for joining up with the Senegal national team and expressed his wishes to experience many great moments with the Lions of Teranga.

“It’s with great pride and joy that today I can announce my decision to play for the Senegal national team,” said the defender.

“The coach has shown me the quality of this team and it’s a great project, but this is a choice from the heart more than anything.

“I want to thank all of those close to me that have accompanied me in making this my final choice.

“In contrast to what has been said in the press recently, this decision is only based on a love for my roots and is in no way a second choice.

“I hope I can live up to the Lions of Teranga and experience many great moments with this team on the field.

“I want to thank everyone for their kind messages and support.”
