Giuseppe Wilson LazioLazio legend Pino Wilson believes that the club’s summer signings were underwhelming, but thinks that everyone will have to wait and see how things turn out.

The Darlington-born 69-year-old felt that the club could have bought more experienced players to lessen the burden on the Aquile’s key players after a start to the season that saw them eliminated from the Champions League before losing 4-0 at Chievo.

“Young prospects have arrived, players for the future,” said Wilson to Tuttomercatoweb.

“They are young players who add depth but [Alessandro] Matri was the only experienced player who came in and perhaps it would have been better if had been brought in earlier.

“I’d give the transfer window 6.5 out of 10 for the future, but 5 out of 10 for the present.”

The 1973-74 Serie A winner also believed that the club’s success in keeping its stars does not make up for a lack of new arrivals.

“Yes, Lucas Biglia, Felipe Anderson and Keita Balde Diao all stayed, but that’s something different and not what the transfer market is about,” Wilson added.

“It’s hard to improve the squad, but it could have used big-name players who can rotate with Biglia or Miroslav Klose.

“They could have used players with those characteristics in certain areas but nobody arrived.”

The former Italian international was then asked if he was disappointed with the club’s transfer campaign.

“We’re still at the start of the season,” Wilson responded.

“We’ve blamed the pressure on the team in the month of August for this slow start.

“We’ll wait and see, but we should have got through the Champions League play-off against Bayer Leverkusen.”

Wilson made 296 appearances for Lazio between 1969 and 1979.
