Genoa v EmpoliEmpoli striker Massimo Maccarone has been satisfied with his side so far this season, and is excited to see new signing Marko Livaja perform for the club.

The Azzurri have started with two defeats, to table-topping Chievo and AC Milan, but the former Middlesbrough striker is confident results will improve.

“Against Milan we showed that we can do well,” he noted to Sky Sport Italia, “our condition is improving and will get better in future weeks. They had brought in reinforcements in every department, not just in attack, where we maybe placed too much emphasis.

“Livaja has so much experience despite being so young. First at Atalanta, and in Russia, I followed him and he came here fired up; we are confident in his abilities.”

He also spoke about Empoli’s next home game, when they are due to face former coach Maurizio Sarri and Napoli.

“I think his welcome will be positive,” he continued, “and it should be because he gave us three fantastic years. I am sorry he has not started well with Napoli, but in some places you need a little patience and he needs time to get the players to understand his system.”
