Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has claimed that his side can go on to claim the Serie A crown for the first time in 15 years after a positive start to their league campaign.

The Giallorossi drew in their opening fixture against Verona before narrowly beating Juventus at home last weekend, with the club positioned in seventh after two matches.

As the Belgian international is hopeful his side can build on from their positive results thus far.

“We’re ready to win, but it will not be easy. If you play for Roma and you are coming off two second place finishes, you have to believe the Scudetto can be won,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We’ve started the season well despite drawing away to Hellas Verona.

“If we didn’t win against Juventus, then the opposite would be said about us.

“Let’s just say that we have done well, and that we deserved the joy we experienced against the Bianconeri.

“Juve remain Juve and they will bounce back.”

In addition, the 27-year-old heaped praise on summer recruit Edin Dzeko, and believes his qualities will help the side achieve a successful season.

“However we have become stronger as we’ve signed a great striker [Edin Dzeko], even though we already had great players,” he continued.

“He is very strong and good at shielding the ball, and he is also very confident in his ability to score.”
