Davy Klaassen AjaxNapoli reportedly saw an audacious 11th hour bid for young Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen immediately rejected, as the summer transfer window drew to a close on Monday.

The 22-year-old, who made his senior debut for the Netherlands national team in 2014, has been an integral player under boss Frank de Boer since the 2013-14 season.

According to De Telegraaf, the Partenopei had been keen admirers of Klaassen throughout the summer and confirmed their interest by submitting an offer in the region of €18 million minutes before the transfer window ended.

The optimistic bid was swiftly rejected by Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars, as the last-minute nature of the proposal meant the Lancers could not find a suitable replacement in time.

Klaassen has accumulated over 60 Eredivisie appearances for the Amsterdam outfit since 2011, scoring 18 league goals and laying on a further 14 assists.
