Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has admitted that he was aware of Juventus‘ interest in him in the summer transfer window but chose to ignore it.
The 2015/16 campaign marks Hamsik’s ninth with Napoli, making him one of the longest-serving veterans of the Azzurri and undoubtedly among the team’s key players.
Corriere dello Sport reported Friday that Hamsik had heard that Juventus was interested and had even submitted a bid, but chose to remain at the club.
“I knew of Juventus’ interest in me and I was aware of the offer, but I preferred not to inquire,” the Slovakian international said.
“And it’s better that way.”
Hamsik’s loyalty has been demonstrated over 283 appearances for Napoli, during which he’s scored 76 goals and set up 67 more.
The reaffirmation of the team captain’s faith will come as welcome news to Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri as he prepares for his team’s encounter with Empoli after the international break concludes.
