Roma new-boy William Vainqueur has spoken of his respect for the club’s importance and its players.

The Frenchman joined the Giallorossi from Dynamo Moscow on the last day of the transfer window.

“Having signed for Roma is a source of great pride for me,” he told Roma TV

“It is extraordinary. As a child I often watched Serie A.

“Roma are one of the most important teams in Italy.

“I talked about the move about three weeks ago with my agent, and as soon as I knew of Roma’s interest, I accepted immediately.

“[Francesco] Totti and [Daniele] De Rossi are great players, and have won the World Cup.

“I am a defensive midfielder, so I like to retrieve balls and involve my team-mates.

“There are things I have to improve, though, and I will try to do so as much as possible; I have to improve in front of goal.

“My targets are definitely winning a trophy, as the squad has been strengthened a lot.

“Beyond that, I want to play in the Champions League.”
