Roma captain Francecso Totti has sent teammate Kevin Strootman a message of support as the player faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.

The 25-year-old Dutch international midfielder has undergone more surgery on his troublesome left knee, an injury first sustained during a Serie A match against Napoli in March 2014.

“Kevin, we are all with you! Champions like you are true gladiators, never give up. We are waiting for you my friend. Your help on the field is too important,” Totti said in an official statement on his website.

“Kevin Strootman today underwent reconstructive ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) surgery on his left knee. The operation went well and the midfielder will now continue with his rehabilitation program,” an official club statement read.

Strootman has made just 31 appearances for the Giallorssi since a €17 million transfer from PSV Eindhoven in 2013, scoring five goals in the process.
