Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has reacted to speculation surrounding the need for another operation on his persistent knee injury.

The Dutch international was plagued by the problem for 18 months of his time in Serie A, thus prompting the requirement for a third surgical procedure within that hugely frustrating period.

Strootman took to twitter to break the news.

Strootman went onto say, “The last few weeks we have consulted many top professors all over the [world], and they and the medical staff of AS Roma have advised me to reconstruct the existing ACL into another position in order for me to have less problems with my knee in the future and to regain my power again.

“I will undergo surgery this morning.

“I am hugely disappointed that I cannot contribute to AS Roma and the Dutch national team for the next few months but I will do everything to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.”

His return date is unclear, but it’s expected to take a minimum of two months before Strootman will be ready to resume training.

The 25-year-old has made 36 appearances in all competitions for the Giallorossi to date, while scoring six goals, since arriving at the capital club from PSV in July 2013.
