Roma left-back Ashley Cole will not be leaving the Serie A club before the end of his contract, despite reported interest from elsewhere.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender Cole was omitted from the Giallorossi’s opening two Serie A fixtures of the 2015-16 campaign against Hellas Verona and Juventus, and then found himself left out of their Champions League squad to boot.
According to the Daily Mirror, the ex-England international has no plans to rescind the remaining 12 months of his two-year deal in order to join a so-called lesser side.
“He’s not going to be cancelling his contract to go back to play for a lower-league club,” said a source close to the player.
“He’ll stay where he is and then consider his options.”
The 34-year-old made just 11 Serie A appearances last term, having signed on a free transfer in July 2014.
