Genoa before the deal collapsed on Monday.

The Argentine was on the brink of moving on loan to the Grifone after struggling to make an impact following his move to the Giallorossi last summer, however Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini performed a dramatic u-turn just hours before the transfer window slammed shut on Monday evening in order to keep the player in the Italian capital.

According to Sky Sport Italia, not only were Genoa largely unaware that the move was about to collapse but it turns out Iturbe himself had already packed his bags in preparation of transferring to Stadio Luigi Ferraris before being informed that Sabatini had pulled the plug on the deal.

Iturbe joined Roma last summer in a €22 million move from Hellas Verona, however the 22-year-old has struggled to hit the ground running during his time with the club.
