Massimo Ferrero SampdoriaSampdoria president Massimo Ferrero clarified why Roberto Soriano’s move to Napoli was not completed by the end of transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old was set to join the Partenopei after also being linked with AC Milan, but the paperwork was not filed in time.

“The affair with Soriano was complicated,” said Ferrero to Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“He was training at Coverciano and therefore wasn’t present for discussions.

“I didn’t understand why the deadline was at 23:00, days finish at midnight.

“Christ worked 24 hour-long days but we didn’t get the deal done in time for 23:00.

“I was there and contactable for everybody, there was an agreement with [Napoli president Aurelio] De Laurentiis reached on the telephone and we couldn’t finalise the deal only because of timing.

“However, in the end I am happy to have kept a great player.

“Juan Camilo Zuniga couldn’t arrive as his move was tied up with Soriano’s.”

The film producer also spoke about his striker Eder who was linked with a move to Inter.

“Sampdoria has its accounts in order and the club doesn’t need to sell off its players,” added Ferrero.

“Therefore I didn’t put anybody on the market.”
