Serie A action is coming thick and fast at the moment as we were treated to this early-season midweek round of fixtures.

Thankfully, the players are still fresh enough to provide us with some brilliant entertainment as well as a couple of incredible stories.

The standout results are unquestionably Frosinone earning their first ever Serie A point at the Juventus Stadium, as they equalised in the dying seconds, while fellow newcomers Carpi held Napoli to a draw.

Scudetto hopefuls Roma lost to Sampdoria, the Blucerchiati’s Genovese rivals Genoa were seen off by Lazio.

Elsewhere, AC Milan beat Udinese, Inter beat Hellas Verona, high-flying Chievo saw off Torino, Fiorentina beat newly promoted Bologna, and Sassuolo claimed an important away win at Palermo.

Our Team of the Week will see a rather attacking 3-4-3 formation deployed.

Zeljko Brkic – Carpi

The goalkeeper came on in unexpected circumstances having started the game on the bench. Did well to deny several Napoli chances on the night to earn his side a historic point.

Davide Calabria – AC Milan

The youngster has been a revelation in the last couple of games for the Rossoneri and they may well have a new superstar defender on their hands given how accomplished and composed the full-back already appears.

Team of the Week 2015-16 5Dario Dainelli – Chievo

The Chievo defender made more Team of the Week appearances than most defenders in Serie A last season, and this is his first appearance this season having helped the Flying Donkeys earn an impressive and somewhat surprising 1-0 win over the much-fancied Torino.

Ervin Zukanovic – Sampdoria

In what was an impressively compact Sampdoria defence, the former Chievo man played his part as the Blucerchiati kept Roma frustrated throughout. Their defensive solidity was key as they kept Roma out, which allowed them to snatch all three points through their consistently effective counterattacks.

Felipe Melo – Inter

The former Galatasaray midfielder has been doing more than saying some amazing things of late, as he as also been just as impressive on the field as he has been with his words to the press of late. He grabbed the decisive goal as the Nerazzurri claimed yet another one-goal victory and bossed the midfield.

Jakub Blaszczykowski – Fiorentina

The Viola’s new recruit from Borussia Dortmund ran the show in the midfield against Bologna, finding himself deservedly on the scoresheet as well. Appears to have taken to Serie A like a duck to water.

Felipe Anderson – Lazio

The Brazilian has struggled to hit the heights he set for himself with his performances last season, but things look to be changing as he scored a sublime curling effort from range to help the Biancocelesti secure the points.

Giacomo Bonaventura – AC Milan (Two Team of the Week appearances)

Jack makes his second consecutive TOTW appearance following an impressive midweek showing. He once again found himself on the scoresheet as he netted to double the Rossoneri’s lead in the tenth minute.

Danilo Soddimo – Frosinone

Another representative for Serie A’s minnows to accompany Brkic of Carpi. Soddimo was someone who did have a relative level of expectation on him as the Canarini set out to take Serie A by storm this season and his performance as Frosinone stole a late point against Juventus is definitely worthy of his selection in this team.

Mario Balotelli – AC Milan

Mario appears to be reborn under Sinisa Mihajlovic since returning to Milan and it didn’t take him long to get off the mark in his first start. A stunning free kick was the least his performance deserved on the night, and in previous outings.

Eder – Sampdoria

Another player who proved vital as Samp looked to be devastating in the counterattack. Constantly busy on the night against the Giallorossi and every time the Genovese club broke, Eder was involved. Scored with a well hit shot from a free kick to put the Blucerchiati ahead.
