Paulo SousaFiorentina coach Paulo Sousa says his side must be realistic about their Scudetto chances despite going top of Serie A after thrashing Inter 4-1 on Sunday.

The Viola went into the game at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium with the majority of the focus on the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto prospects, but it was Sousa’s side who underlined their title credentials with a thumping win leaving the Portuguese delighted with his side’s performance.

“We work hard to get these results and it’s great to see the guys play in this manner,” Sousa told Premium Sport.

“The squad has had a fantastic attitude with me and tonight was an important game where we have done well, it’s very satisfying.”

Sousa believes his side can compete with anyone in Serie A, but says they must be realistic in competing with clubs who have invested heavily to win the title.

“We must be realistic, there are teams that have invested so much and already have so much quality,” said Sousa.

“We want to work hard in order to compete with everyone.

“We’re a dangerous side to play against and we’re always looking to win games and I hope we can continue this continuity.

“However, of course there will be difficult times that we will have to overcome too.”

Fiorentina now top Serie A for the first time since February 1998 as a result of their win over Inter.
