Lazio sporting director Igli Tare is adamant the club will be fighting for the Serie A title in two or three years.

The Biancocelesti finished in fourth place last term but were unable to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League after recently crashing out to Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite the arrivals of young talents the likes of Sergej Milinkovi?-Savi?, Ricardo Kishna and Patric as well as retaining Felipe Anderson and Miroslav Klose, Lazio sit in 13th position after an opening weekend victory before suffering a damaging 4-0 loss to leaders Chievo.

Nevertheless, Tare is confident that, despite a period of transition, the future of a club is secure.

“Within two to three years we want to fight for the Scudetto,” he toldĀ KTV Kohavision.

“Lazio is a club with a great tradition that has had to go through a long period of transition, but in these last 10 years, we have done a great job.

“With Stefano Pioli as coach, we laid the foundations for the future and we want to form a group which gives rise to a new cycle in the next 5 years.”

But in the meantime, Tare insists the season objective remains to qualify for a spot in Europe’s premier club competition next term.

“This year we would like to be able to qualify in the Champions League.”
