Italy midfielder Marco Verratti has said that he can fit into the same starting line-up as the legendary Andrea Pirlo on international duty.
The 22-year-old Paris Saint-Germain player featured alongside the former Juventus playmaker in the Azzurri’s 1-0 win against Malta on Thursday night and Verratti believes that their roles in Antonio Conte’s team compliment each other.
“We are good together. We have different tasks,” Verratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He imposes the play [and] I remain closer to our goal. Now we have to work to find the perfect setup.”
Italy are now on top of Group H with 15 points after seven matches, while Croatia are behind them in second place on 14 points albeit with a one-point penalty.
Malta are rooted at the foot of the table with just one point.
