Bologna this summer.
The Italian international is on a season-long loan at Watford from Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande and Diamanti claims he wanted to leave China.
“I would have loved to go back to Bologna but it was never on the cards,” Diamanti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“When I returned from Fiorentina to China and Guangzhou, I knew I was not in the plans of Luiz Felipe Scolari.
“I could have stayed in China and just sat on the bench, watching the money go into my bank account but I wanted to play.”
Diamanti then went onto talk about how he joined Watford and his experience at Tuscan sides Livorno and Fiorentina.
“I was contacted by Watford and the interest was serious,” Diamanti continued.
“I gave up a lot of money by leaving China but there are more important things in life.
“I wanted to play once again in England.
“My time at Fiorentina was too short but I enjoyed the time I spent at the club.
“When I was growing up, I became a man at Livorno.”
