Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he’s open to making a return to the AC Milan bench in the future and insists that he would never coach Inter.

The 56-year-old, who has been taking time off to rest since leaving Real Madrid in May, has admitted that he was in contact with Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani about returning to the Stadio Meazza outfit over the summer, but had to refuse the offer due to his need for back surgery.

Ancelotti spoke to Goal about a possible return to AC Milan in the future and also commented on why he would never coach a club like Inter.

“When I was finished at Madrid, there was contact with Galliani,” said the tactician, who had a successful stint at the helm Milan from 2001-09.

“We had met in Madrid, but I needed to have this operation on my back. I would have been out for four months and I wouldn’t have been able to do things at 100 per cent.

“So, while it disappointed me a bit, it was the right thing to do and Milan understood this.

“I’ve had the good fortune of enjoying myself everywhere I’ve coached, though. For this reason, I can’t say that I wouldn’t return to one club or another.

“I would certainly return to Milan, just as I would return to Paris Saint-Germain. Regardless of how things finished, I still have great memories of these experiences.

“I could not coach at a place like Inter because I’ve spent so many years at Milan. It’s a question of respect towards my history and the history of the clubs I have coached.”
