Matteo Darmian ItalyMatteo Darmian has revealed his delight in scoring his first goal for Italy.

The Manchester United defender scored the third of Italy’s goal in their 3-1 win against Azerbaijan which secured their place at Euro 2016 and Darmian admitted the most important thing was qualification from the match.

“It was nice to score my first goal for the national team,” Darmian told reporters after the match.

“It was a thrill and it was evident with the embrace with my teammates.

“The important thing was to qualify though.

“We knew it was a difficult game but we played in the best way.

“We always step onto the pitch to win and we will try to do so against Norway in our next game”

Darmian then went onto speak about his club career and his move to Manchester United in the summer.

“With Torino I spent four important years, it helped me to grow because I was recovering from a difficult year at Palermo,” Darmian added.

“I was immediately given trust and our relationship grew year after year.

“I had a great time at Torino but when Manchester United called I had to leave.

“Louis Van Gaal has a strong personality, he plays great attention to every detail and he demands the best from every player.”
