Luigi Di Biagio ItalyItaly U-21 coach Luigi Di Biagio praised the impact of Juventus and AC Milan defenders Daniele Rugani and Alessio Romagnoli on his side.

Di Biagio also acknowledged that international duty offers some of his squad the opportunity to play when they’ve been spending a lot of time on the bench for their clubs.

“The Slovenia game is crucial,” said Di Biagio to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I have a 4-4-2 in mind, even if obviously we are used to a 4-3-3 that we can use from the start or during the game.

“A lot of the boys don’t play much for their clubs but we’ve spoken about that enough, it’s pointless to start a useless debate.

“Every team will have their own reasons for not using them.

“Daniele Rugani will want to use these two Italy games to get some playing time.

“Rugani and [Alessio] Romagnoli have stepped down to the U-21s in an incredible fashion, at Reggio Emilia versus Slovenia in the first game of the group they were the best players on the pitch.

“When the two most important players behave like that everything else becomes more simple.”
