Sassuolo coach Eusebio Di Francesco has been left disappointed after the Neroverdi’s 1-0 loss away to Serie A strugglers Empoli on Sunday afternoon.

An 88th minute Massimo Maccarone goal brought Sassuolo’s unbeaten record to a dramatic halt, with Di Francesco admitting his side deserved to lose the match.

“I’m not happy,” the 46-year-old told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“I didn’t see the team that we have seen in recent weeks. We’re not happy with what we saw in a single second of today’s game.

“Today we were absurdly distracted, though is not an excuse I can accept.

“We did a little better in the second half but in the end we didn’t give enough to bring the points home.

“I liked the way Empoli played, they deserved the victory.”

Continuing, Di Francesco targeted his side’s attitude throughout the game, though confessed that the loss will finally stop talk of a shock title run.

“At least now talk surrounding us about the Scudetto will stop,” he said.

“I was very angry today, especially with the team’s attitude.

“Certain attitudes are not fit for a team [referring to Sassuolo] that’s main priority must be to avoid relegation.

“We have to be a humble team. We should not presume teams like Empoli are easy to beat.”
