Paulo SousaFiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has admitted that the club previously considered hiring current coach Paulo Sousa.

The Viola eventually plumped for Vincenzo Montella, but turned back to Sousa when the former Roma striker left the club this summer.

“Paulo Sousa was already a possible coach for us four years ago,” admitted Prade on T9’s football talk show ‘Il Processo Di Biscardi.’

“We opted for Montella after Fiorentina beat Lecce in 2012, Sousa was coaching Videoton then and we already liked him.”

The sporting director went on to discuss Sousa’s impressive start to the season, which sees the Viola at the top of the table after seven fixtures.

“We like the word Scudetto,” enthused Prade.

“We are enjoying the moment, ourselves and the whole city and we can dream, as I told the coach, of something big.

“We are aware that that it is a long road, but we are keeping ourselves grounded.

“I would take third place at the moment as there are still teams better equipped than ourselves.

“I would favour Napoli, Roma and Inter.”
