Palermo.

The Romans raced into a three-goal lead within 30 minutes in Sicily, eventually winning the contest 4-2 as the match ended with goals in injury-time.

“It was the first opportunity to recover from the defeat in Borisov,” Garcia told Mediaset Premium.

“We played a good match, especially in the first-half.

“However, I’m sorry for the way we conceded the first goal. It was our fault, we gave them the chance.

“Congratulations goes to the players, though, a win away is never easy.

“I had no doubts that a reaction would come, the team has always been good.

“Now they have to prove they can play well throughout the entire match, as against Juventus and Barcelona.

“Now comes the rest, but there is still much work be done to integrate the reinforcements that arrived in the summer.

“I hope we can learn from past mistakes, we must always start well and play consistently.”

After Gervinho scored the crucial two goals to take the points away from Sicily, Garcia insisted that there is no favouritism aimed at the Ivorian attacker.

“When you do not play well, you do not play,” claimed Garcia.

“You (the press) were wrong to say he is playing due to favouritism. He is playing because he can help us.

“But today it was not just him, we did well in the first-half, we played football with great quality.

“In the second-half we started to try to manage the match too early.”

Another man on the scoresheet against Palermo was Alessandro Florenzi, and the Frenchman admitted it is a benefit to be able to use the Italian in a variety of positions.

“We decided early in the season [he could be used as a full-back], said Garcia. “He has done great, scoring a few goals.

“He plays that role very well, today it was important for him to be as high up the pitch as possible.

“Florenzi gave us a hand in all the departments today. He is an offensive player of the right wing, and can do well in all the roles on that side.”

Although the Giallorossi continue their charge for a first Scudetto since 2001 they have had their struggles in the Champions League, and the coach accepted responsibility for the recent defeat to BATE Borisov.

“The responsibility for the first-half in Borisov is mine,” stated Garcia. “I still have the confidence of the players and we can do well.

“I feel calm, before the match against Verona I said that we will be stronger if we were united.

“The players must give their best, I like it this squad. The guys can do big things.”
