Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has claimed that he was more than happy to have left Inter, revealing that he had a strained relationship with coach Roberto Mancini.

The 21-year-old spent two seasons at the Nerazzurri, making 80 Serie A appearances in the process, before making the move to Los Blancos in the summer, where he has, so far, featured on seven occasion in La Liga.

And now the Croatian international has expressed his delight at joining Real Madrid, and claims it was a mistake for Mancini to modify his tactical role.

“It was an honour to play for Inter, but “I had no relationship with Mancini, neither was it positive nor negative,” he told Sportske Novosti.

“I am not sure that he wanted me in the squad. I don’t know what he thought when I left.

“In any case, I was happy to leave Inter, because I don’t know how it would’ve ended up there.

“When I left, Mancini told me he was disappointed, but to be honest while I was actually in the squad I never got that sensation.

“I also believe it was a mistake to modify my natural tactical position.

“Now I’m at Real Madrid, a club that aims to win it all, a club in another level.”
