Lazio narrowly defeated Frosinone 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday to heap further pressure on the Canarini in their bid to beat the drop.

Keita Balde Diado only came on as a substitute for Ricardo Krishna in the second half but opened the scoring in the 79th minute before forward Filip Djordjevic managed a second in stoppage time.

Lazio had the advantage in the first half registering four shots on goal, but were unable to turn it into a lead.

To their credit, newly promoted Frosinone put up a stern defensive effort, sitting deep against the hosts and denying space for the likes of Felipe Anderson and Ricardo Krishna to influence proceedings.

Lazio were forced into using their first substitute when goalkeeper Federico Marchetti was forced off after sustaining an injury below his left eye with reserve keeper Etrit Berisha coming on in the Italian’s place.

Frosinone began the second half quickly and had a good chance to score when forward Federico Dionisi had an attempt saved by Berisha in the 46th minute.

Roberto Stellone’s side played mostly on the counter-attack and were willing to concede possession to Lazio in favour of attempting to take on the Biancocelesti directly.

Leonardo Blanchard hit the post for the visitors with a headed shot from a corner just as Lazio attempted to switch things up by bringing on Keita in place of Krishna and Abdoulay Konko in place of Dusan Basta.

Moments after Blanchard’s near miss, Lazio went close themselves when Marco Parolo had an effort cleared off the line.

Lazio’s goal came when forward Filip Djordjevic set up Keita to finally finish off the post.

Djordjevic himself then scored in the dying moments of the game, finishing off a Felipe Anderson deflected shot to put Lazio’s win beyond doubt.

The result takes Lazio to third in Serie A whilst newly promoted Frosinone remain 19th .
