LPioli - Lazioazio coach Stefano Pioli hailed his side’s narrow 2-0 win against local rivals Frosinone, claiming he was relieved to have earned a result despite a mostly nervy game.

Pioli’s Biancocelesti were left scoreless against a dogged Frosinone defense until the 79th minutes before Keita Balde Diao struck to give the hosts the lead, followed by a stoppage time goal from Filip Djordjevic.

“We suffered because in the first half we did not go ahead despite playing well,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“We lacked the final ball and when you don’t make the breakthrough you keep your opponent’s hopes alive.”

“We wanted this victory though, we played with so much spirit and character and this is very important.”

Frosinone came close to taking the lead in the second half and it seemed as if their goal might come, though Keita’s goal tipped the balance in Lazio’s favor.

“When they came close to scoring [at the start of the second half], we were scared and they took courage,” said Pioli.

Despite the win, Pioli lamented the lack of time his side had to rest after Thursday’s 3-2 win over Saint-Etienne in the Europa League.

“We are not used to playing every three days, but we’re doing it and getting good results,” continued Pioli.

“I have a young team and I’m happy, but young sometimes need a break.

“I’m very satisfied with this fourth consecutive victory, but we have not done anything yet.”
