Lippi-ItaliaFormer Italy coach Marcello Lippi has denied rumours that AC Milan approached him to take over as coach during the summer nor have they contacted him about a future position in charge.

The Rossoneri parted company with former coach Filippo Inzaghi after a disappointing 10th place finish in Serie A and eventually appointed former Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic as Inzaghi’s successor.

However, there has been speculation that Lippi was approached for the vacancy during the summer and has been sounded out about replacing Mihajlovic in the future should the Serbian fail to turn the club’s fortunes around, but the 67-year-old former Juventus coach has denied that is the case.

“The Rossoneri haven’t contacted me and nor has any other club so far,” Lippi told Radio 2.

Lippi famously guided Italy to the World Cup in 2006 during his first spell in charge of the Azzurri.
