NapoliNapoli saw off Midtjylland 4-1 at the MCH Arena to ensure they top Group D in the Europa League group stage.

Goals from Jose Callejon, Gonzalo Higuain and a brace from Manolo Gabbiadini completed the route, but Martin Pusic did pull one back for the Danish champions.

Surprisingly, the Danes threatened first with Erik Sviatchenko heading the ball past Pepe Reina, but was adjudged to have committed a foul in climbing to meet the delivery.

However, despite some very impressive early pressure from Midtjylland, they would soon concede through Jose Callejon. A wonderful long ball from Kalidou Koulibaly was plucked out of the sky by the Spaniard, who improvised his first-time finish to bamboozle Mikkel Andersen in goal.

If the goal had settled some early nerves, then the second from Manolo Gabbiadini made the game relatively comfortable for the Azzurri. A brilliant cross from Allan was met at full stretch by the Italian, who doubled the visiting side’s lead just after the half hour mark. The 23 year-old doubled his account just before half time in spectacular fashion, receiving the ball outside the box, he curled the ball past Andersen nonchalantly; compounding the misery on the Midtjylland shot-stopper.

Some reprieve came for the Danes in the form of a goal. Martin Pusic sent his shot low into the penalty area, which ricocheted it’s way past Pepe Reina to give the home side something to cheer about. Gonzalo Higuain scored a late fourth for Napoli to complete the win, latching onto the end of a through pass from Omar El Kaddouri.

The result pushes Napoli into a commanding position at the top of Group D with nine points, with Midtjlland still in with a chance of qualifying in second place.
