Lazio coach Stefano Pioli says his side want to go as far as they can in the Europa League.

The Biancocelesti overcame Saint-Etienne 3-2 on Thursday night in their second match in this season’s group stage, coming from behind to lead 2-1 before winning by three goals to two after the away team had two men sent off.

“We did not start well, but we responded well and deserved the two goal advantage,” Pioli told reporters after the game.

“After some of their players were sent off we didn’t know whether to attack in search of the fourth goal or defend the win.

“We had to look for the fourth goal with more determination, there should not be a drop in energy.”

The 49-year-old then talked about how far they can go in this year’s competition after their defeat in the Champions League qualifying stages to Bayer Leverkusen.

“I’m happy to be in Europe, although the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen was tough to digest,” he said.

“We are not the favourites to win the Europa League, but we want to demonstrate that we can be competitive in all parts of the field.”
