Sampdoria drew 1-1 with Inter at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

Luis Muriel opened the scoring early in the second half before Ivan Perisic levelled with 15 minutes left.

Sampdoria looked very dangerous in the opening 10 minutes but were unable to finish despite creating a number of chances.

The game then settled into a rhythm with both sides showing more patience in possession but both struggled to find their way through the opposition.

Rodrigo Palacio picked the ball in the 25th minute inside the area and fired across goal only for Emiliano Viviano to make a good save.

Samp almost took the lead in the 32nd minute as Eder fired from a great position after a counterattack but Gary Medel was there to make a crucial block.

Joaquin Correa should have scored after his shot was saved by Samir Handanovic only for the rebound to fall at his feet but the Argentine dragged his shot wide of the open goal for an astonishing miss.

Sampdoria had two great chances at the very start of the second half but the Blucerchiati wasted a four on two opportunity while Luis Muriel headed wide after a great Djamel Mesbah cross minutes later.

The home side finally made their pressure count in the 50th minute as the ball was knocked out to right where Pedro Pereira’s bouncing first time cross was turned in acrobatically by Muriel.

Inter went looking for the equaliser immediately and Pereira had to clear a dangerous low ball across the face of goal in the 54th minute to prevent the tap in.

Muriel almost doubled the lead in the 70th minute after driving forward before firing narrowly wide.

Ivan Perisic equalised with 15 minutes left after Mauro Icardi found the Croatian at the far post following a goalmouth scramble and Inter pressed to win the game but the Blucerchiati held them at bay despite some scares.

The result sees Inter return to top spot ahead of Fiorentina’s late fixture while Samp move level with Atalanta on 11 points.
