Jose Callejon - NapoliNapoli forward Jose Callejon has said that Maurizio Sarri’s confidence in him persuaded him to stay at the club in the summer despite being linked with a move away.

The Spaniard was repeatedly linked with transfers to the English Premier League and Spain’s La Liga however he has stated that Sarri, who took over at the Stadio San Paolo in the summer, was able to convince him to stay on his first day in charge.

“I talked to Sarri on the first day; he said he had confidence in me, that we could have a good season and I told him that I would stay,” said the 28-year-old in an interview with Sky Sport 24.

“I saw in him so much confidence in me.”

Callejon then went on the talk about the players’ connection with the Partenopei fans.

“We play for the club but above all for the fans who pay for the ticket to watch the game.

“We have to enjoy ourselves on the pitch but to entertain them as well.

“We want to play well, defend our shirt, have fun and be happy.”
