allegri juventusJuventus coach Massimiliano Allegri praised new boy Alex Sandro and his side’s performance after a 1-0 win over Manchester City.

Mario Mandzukic bagged the only goal of the game thanks to a wonderful cross by the aforementioned Brazilian, sending the Bianconeri into the knockout stages of the Champions League and into top spot of Group D.

“First off, I chose Mandzukic over Morata [Alvaro] as I felt he would be more useful for this match,” Allegri told Premium Sport.

“I am very happy with what the boys have done today as well,” he added.

“It’s not easy to qualify from a group that has been so difficult with a game to go.

“Not conceding today was also a bonus and very important in the long run.

“The team can take all the credit, they beat a good team that packs great quality in their ranks.”

Alex Sandro played out a superb performance in the wing-back role and was given high praise for his performance on Wednesday night.

“He’s a great buy,” the Bianconeri boss stated.

“Players such as Sandro just need to be left to grow and improve.

“Tonight he played out a good game, both defensively and in the attacking third of the pitch.

“Even Evra [Patrice] who came on for him guaranteed us the safety of the points in the final moments of the match.”

The result today gave another win for Allegri to saviour, something his side have not enjoyed as much this season as in previous years.

“The normality here should be winning.”

“Just like in our last three games we won, but I just feel the team needs to grow steadily.

“Tonight, for example, showed we can mismanage situations.

“Don’t forget we have a lot of young players out there.”
