Mehdi Benatia RomaMedhi Benatia is prepared to take a 25% pay cut in order to rejoin Roma from German champions Bayern Munich.

The Moroccan international has found himself out of the Bavarians’ starting line up in recent months and is open to a move away from the club in order to get more first team football.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the former Udinese defender is prepared to reduce his wages to under €3 million per season in the hope of securing a move back to the Stadio Olimpico.

The deal is some way off, however, with the German side unwilling to let Benatia go in the upcoming January transfer market.

As Benatia has already played for Bayern in the Champions League this season he would be unable to play for the Giallorossi in the competition should they progress to the knockout stages.

Roma sold Benatia to Bayern last year for €28 million, having bought the defender from Udinese a year previously for less than €15m.
