Soccer: Serie A; Fiorentina-AtalantaFiorentina breezed past Frosinone with a 4-1 win at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday afternoon.

An action packed first half saw Fiorentina take a four-goal lead through Ante Rebic, Gonzalo Rodriguez, Khouma Babacar and Mario Suarez before Alessandro Frara pulled back a consolation goal for the visitors in the final minutes.

Warning sirens rang out for Roberto Stellone’s side as early as the fourth minute, as Khouma Babacar had a penalty claim denied before almost squeezing the ball into the net from a tight angle, with Massimo Zappino just able to save the visitors with a fine block.

The Canarini’s frantic defending continued as Fiorentina continued to pile the pressure so early on; Borja Valero the orchestrator of play.

The home side soon found the opening goal they were searching for, as Ante Rebic sent in a curled cross only for the ball to rather fortuitously bounce off the far post and into the goal.

The Croatian then almost repeated his success just seconds later, as he struck the post again after skipping past Frosinone’s defence.

However, the Viola only had to wait five minutes more to score their second of the afternoon, this time defender Gonzalo Rodriguez getting himself on the scoresheet, flicking the ball past Zappino on the end of a vicious Matias Fernandez free kick.

Fernandez was involved in the heat of play once more, as he then won a penalty in the 30th minute having been fouled by former Fiorentina defender Modibo Diakite, leaving Babacar to coolly convert the spot kick down the middle of the goal.

Mario Suarez completed the rout just a minute from half time, as the Spanish midfielder pounced on a loose ball before charging forward and slotting the ball into the bottom corner for his first goal in a Fiorentina shirt.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Fiorentina continuing to dictate play although Massimiliano Carlini and Daniele Verde both missed chances to grab a consolation goal for their side.

Substitutes Joan Verdu and Giuseppe Rossi pushed for a fifth, yet it was the Frosinone captain Alessandro Frara who would grab the last goal of the game, tapping in past Luca Lezzerini.
