Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa was pleased with his team’s performance despite a draw against FC Basel.

La Viola went two ahead thanks to Federico Bernardeschi but Marek Suchy and Mohamed Elneny leveled.

“I clapped my players because I’m proud of them and their performance today,” Sousa told Sky Sport Italia.

“A team that plays and defends well, even without the ball, deserves to be applauded. It was a difficult tie.”

Facundo Roncaglia was shown a red card in the first half after elbowing striker Breel Embolo in the face.

“There were incidents similar to the Roncaglia dismissal, we have to be more disciplined,” he added.

“We have the desire to improve, and we have to improve if we are to continue in this tournament.

“I have to improve as well to get the very best from my players, we are all motivated to improve.

“Bernardeschi participated in all aspects of play which helped him, he took his two goals well.

“He’s young and he can still grow, this was a good example for him,” Sousa concluded.
