Napoli captain Marek Hamsik admitted his side’s performances have been a surprise to him and that they can challenge for Scudetto as long as their form remains consistent.
The Partenopei extended their 17-game unbeaten run thanks to a 1-0 victory at Club Brugge in the Europa League, where they have only conceded one goal in five matches.
“I honestly didn’t expect Napoli to be this successful, although we built some strong foundations in recent years,” Hamsik told Sky Sport Italia.
“There is a very long way to go for the Scudetto, but we can do it if we keep playing like this.”
Napoli are to face Serie A leaders Inter in a high-profile domestic clash on Monday.
“It will be a complicated match as they’re the leaders but we are playing at home and we will play how we always do,” Hamsik added.
The Partenopei have already sealed qualification to the knockout stage in Europa League and sit just two points behind Inter in the Serie A table.
