After Lionel Messi’s double against Roma in the Champions League, Inter striker Mauro Icardi has named the Barcelona talisman as the best player in the world.
Following last season where Icardi struck 27 goals for the Nerazzurri, he has had a slower start to this campaign, where he has only found the net four times in 11 appearances. However, despite his stunning form, the Argentine born striker told Goal.com that his fellow countryman Messi is a step above all others, and admits that it has been difficult for him to play for the Argentina national team because of all the phenomenal strikers his country boasts.
“There are several great footballers in South America,” the 22-year old told Goal.com.
“I try to play my best, and I am very happy with what I did last season.
“But it will be hard to become the best South American striker because there are so many other outstanding players, especially from Argentina.
“I’m Argentine, and that is why I admire Messi the most.
“For me, he is the best player in the world.”
