Lorenzo Insigne - NapoliFollowing Napoli’s 2-0 win over Hellas Verona, Lorenzo Insigne’s agent Fabio Andreotti said the whistles and chants directed toward his client were disgraceful to all Italians.

The playmaker was one of the few Italians on the field and was directly involved in both goals on Sunday, netting the first one and assisting the second, but his celebrations were cut short as the Neapolitan was subjected to taunts and jeers.

In a country with a history of a divide between the north and south, Andreotti viewed the whistles as overly hostile.

“In Verona, they sang vulgar chants directed at Lorenzo,” said Andreotti to Radio Crc.

“These things are not consistent with sporting rivalry.

“Most just put a veil over these ugly incidents and say ‘the less we talk about it, the better,’ but these are real offences, it is not just teasing.

“I believe the FIGC must be heard on these issues and condemn these types of incidents.”

Insigne’s agent also praised the Partenopei for their recent performances.

“I am happy with what the team is doing,” added Andreotti.

“Maurizio Sarri has found the team’s identity, and the team has expressed it by playing with pleasure.

“I am also glad that Lorenzo is proving his quality every match, he is becoming a symbol for the team.”

Napoli are preparing for two important upcoming matches, as they travel to Belgium for a match with Club Brugge in the Europa League, and they then host league leaders Inter.

Verona have since been fined €20,000 for chants directed at the opposition support and Insigne while Napoli must pay €4,000 after their fans sang insulting songs about the Gialloblu’s coach Andrea Mandorlini.
