Gianluigi Buffon Champions League final 2003Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon provided a fond reflection of his excitement in making his debut for Parma 20 years ago by earning a clean-sheet against AC Milan.

Thursday marked the 20th anniversary of the day Buffon began his Serie A career at just 17-years-old against the Rossoneri; the Old Lady’s opponents this weekend.

“The memory of my debut is indelible,” the Italian international told Premium Sports.

“I felt trepidation and confidence for such an important match against Milan.

“The excitement and joy will never leave me.”

‘Gigi’ also commented on being part of Parma’s senior team as a 17-year-old.

“At the time the boys saw me as a lunatic, a madman.

“I needed tutors like [Massimo] Crippa, [Alessandro] Nista, [Alessandro] Melli, [Lorenzo] Minotti and [Roberto] Sensini who gave me their support.”

Buffon is hoping to recover from a knock picked up while on international duty in time for Saturday evening’s match at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
