Stefano Pioli Lazio coach Stefano Pioli has revealed his side’s disappointment after their narrow 1-0 defeat away to Empoli.

The Biancocelesti were undone by an early header from defender Lorenzo Tonelli, however the 50-year-old tactician does not believe the Aquile’s loss was justified.

“My team played, ran, fought and simply did not deserve to lose this game,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a delicate situation and we aren’t being rewarded for our efforts. The results have been merciless.”

He added that the side must remain unified during this difficult situation, and that they must use their disappointment to obtain focus in their forthcoming fixtures.

“We suffered, but had clear chances, we have to stay compact and do better,” added Pioli. “There is a lot of disappointment, the results have been negative and the league table is proof of that.

“However, there is definitely a willingness to get out of this situation.”

Lazio remain 10th in Serie A, now without a win in their last five league fixtures.
