New Sampdoria coach Vincenzo Montella has insisted that Antonio Cassano will be given a chance to perform under his leadership.

The former Fiorentina boss took over from Walter Zenga after the Italian was fired after just five months in the hotseat, and has already been asked the inevitable question regarding troublesome striker Cassano, who divides opinion.

“Antonio’s quality and talent will be an added value for us,” he said during his presentation in front of the press.

“It will depend on his fitness, his motivation and his objectives,” he continued.

Montella was also asked about his transfer plans, considering the January transfer window is starting to creep into the minds of fans and coaches alike.

“I haven’t asked for anything because I still don’t know the team,” said Montella.

“Now is premature, and I haven’t had time to think about it,”

Blucerchiati fans also had a special message directed to them from Montella, who predicted a rosy relationship.

“Football is a fun sport, which brings people closer,” he enthused.

“I’m sure we too will be close, and at this moment the message I can give is that we are going to have fun together.”
